Kazakhstan Almaty-Khorgos Highway Project, km 0–304.4 Lot 1 & 2.


This project involves the construction of two lots along the Western Europe – Western China highway corridor, connecting Kazakhstan’s largest city, Almaty, to the Khorgos border with the People’s Republic of China. The objective is to enhance transportation efficiency along the corridor and to modernize road management in selected sections.

Construction Methodology


Under the project, a 1B category 2x2 lane motorway with a total length of 111.7 km was constructed. The scope includes 30 bridges, 7 grade-separated interchanges, 1 railway overpass, 15 underpasses, 270 culverts, as well as 44 additional bridges and overpasses and 7 junctions. The road superstructure consists of a 25 cm concrete pavement, an 18 cm cement-treated base layer, and a 33 cm subbase. Each carriageway is 9.25 meters wide, totalling a 27.5-meter-wide platform. The project was financed by the World Bank and commissioned by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan
